Japanese Movie Theaters

So last Tuesday I went to see Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. This was my first time going to a Japanese movie theater. It was a great experience. It's a little more expensive than in the States. I'ts about $18, but I think it was worth it. Plus the food and drinks are way cheaper than in the States. I bought a small popcorn for $3 and the size was bigger than the small in the U.S. You can see a photo below.

They also have all kinds of food and drinks. You can get tea, coffee, and specialty drinks like grapefruit juice, etc. You can also get popcorn with two flavors. Like they have a container that separates the popcorn and you can choose two flavors. You can get soy sauce, butter, or salt. Or you can mix the flavors together. They also sell nachos, pretzels, and Japanese food that I didn't recognize. They put it all on this tray for you. And the cool thing is that the tray attaches to your seats cup holder so you don't have to hold it and if you want to share it's super easy. Here's a photo to show you what I mean.

Sorry it's blurry. I was trying to take the photo slyly. The plastic bag is so that if you spill it catches it and I think it's also so you can take it home after. So when you buy your ticket you choose your seat and it's common that people reserve their seats days in advance. There are different kinds of seats. If you want the best seats you pay more, but the regular seats were way more comfortable than the seats in the U.S. Well not the new reclining ones of course.

I got there fairly early because I wasn't sure how things worked. I was all ready around 2:25 but the movie was at 2:50. So normally I just go into the area with the theaters and wait outside till I'm allowed into the theater, but here you aren't allowed past the concessions till a certain time. For me it was 2:35. Once I was in something funny happened. My whole row was all foreigners. It wasn't on purpose we just all happened to have chosen that row. We all thought it was quite funny.

The great thing about the theaters in Japan is that once the movie starts not a single person gets up or makes ANY noise. It was so quiet I was afraid to eat because I thought that people might hear me! The sucky part though is that after the movie they keep the lights off and make you stay until the very last credit. Which is incredibly annoying.

Then once you leave they have a whole area with two employees where you give them your stuff. There are no trash cans anywhere but with the employees. You just hand them your tray and they take care of it.

Overall I really enjoyed going to the movies. Besides waiting for the last credit which took forever I would definitely go again.

Lots of Love,

Shanti
